About The Program

Women Entrepreneurs in the Green Economy is a series of workshops to be conducted in Warangal, Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad to train women entrepreneurs.

Selected women-led startups from the states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha will receive coaching in hard and soft entrepreneurial skills, mentoring and support to be investor ready. A local peer network to provide continuous support will also be formed towards the end of the program.  

The program is fully funded by the U.S. Consulate in Hyderabad and will be delivered by the Alliance for Commercialization and Innovation Research (ACIR) which runs the Nexus incubator program.

Erik Azulay

Erik Azulay is a technology commercialization expert and serial entrepreneur specializing in small business startups and international market strategies. He has managed commercialization and incubation projects in 12 countries around the world and launched and sold two logistics companies based in the United States and Russia.

As President of the Alliance for Commercialization and Innovation Research, he currently runs the Nexus Innovation Hub and Incubator in New Delhi, funded by the U.S. State Department, to support the startup ecosystem in India.  The Nexus Incubator showcases best practices in incubation and entrepreneurship from the U.S. and India and its startups have raised over $40 million in funding.

Rebecca Hui

Rebecca is an entrepreneur and artist passionate about bridging cultures globally.  She built Roots Studio over the last 8 years, which reimagines cultural sustainability through digital IP licensing into retail. Roots Studio has been featured in The Business of Fashion, Vogue Business, Cultured Magazine, PBS, The Cut, WWD, TechCrunch, MIT Technology Review, Marie Claire, Stanford Social Innovation Review, amongst others. Through her work, Rebecca has been recognized as a Forbes Under 30 Lister, Cartier Women's Initiative Laureate, and Echoing Green Fellow. 


Rebecca is also passionate about supporting communities facing climate change from both data-driven mapping and grassroots approaches. She has built projects utilizing satellite mapping data to equip rural communities to be more disaster resilient, to remote-sensing maps for coral reef conservation. For two years, she helped devise mapping policy for “The Rurban” with the Government of India to expand water and infrastructure planning.

Rebecca started her journey as a Fulbright Scholar and National Geographic Explorer in India studying human-animal coexistence. She graduated from MIT and UC Berkeley studying Urban Planning and Business. She just published her first children's book on the topic of social enterprise, "It's Our Business to Make a Better World," distributed through Abrams Books.

Malika Taneja

Malika is a Program Manager at Nexus Innovation Hub and Incubator, a U.S. Embassy and ACIR collaboration designed to support the Indian startup ecosystem. She ensures the end-to-end operations of the incubator and provides mentoring in finance & compliance to startups. She also leads the women programs for ACIR across the world.

 

Malika is also the co-founder of Labhya Foundation, an Indian educational nonprofit that enables children from low socio-economic backgrounds with necessary social & emotional skills to cope with poverty and become lifelong learners. Currently, Labhya impacts 2.5 million vulnerable children.

running a business or aspiring to do so

Process
  1. ACIR will deliver two 2-day business training workshops in Warangal and Visakhapatnam to 20 women entrepreneurs each (a total of 40)
     

  2. The top 20 women entrepreneurs from these initial workshops will then be invited to a 3-day, advanced business training workshop, to take place in Hyderabad
